Friede auf Erden adapted for Brass Ensemble by Jeff Luke
My father, American composer Ray Luke instilled in me a love of the music of Arnold Schoenberg at an early age. Along with many of my musical colleagues around the world, I was sidelined during the pandemic of 2020, and while looking for a special piece to arrange, the title Friede auf Erden (Peace on Earth), stood out to me. The perfect harmony Schoenberg writes, in my opinion, is meant to symbolize the hope for universal harmony in mankind. In this adaption, for brass ensemble, I believe Schoenberg’s original idea remains intact.
Jeff Luke is a trumpet player and arranger. He currently resides in Salt Lake City, where he has been Associate Principal Trumpet of the Utah Symphony since 2003.
